Today Members of Parliament of both the houses will elect 15th Vice-president of India.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded former Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu, while opposition parties led by Congress have pitted former West Bengal governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi against him.
Naidu is a veteran BJP leader, having risen from the ranks, while Gandhi is the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and a former diplomat.
Result is expected to be declared around 7 pm today itself.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first to cast their votes in the Parliament, and over 90 percent voting took place till 1 pm.
MP’s will use special pens for marking their choice in the vice-presidential election.
The term of incumbent vice-president Hamid Ansari, who has held the post for two consecutive terms, is coming to an end on August 10.
