The incident took place in the Karma Bazar area under the jurisdiction of Mayurhand police station in Chatra, where police were conducting a mask checking campaign. The jawan had arrived at the market on his bike and was pulled up and beaten up by policemen for not wearing a mask.

When onlookers tried to intervene, they were pushed aside by the policemen, some of whom can be seen without masks in the video.
