Police has filed a chargesheet against former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid after he was booked for reportedly using objectionable language against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

An FIR was registered in April, 2019 against Salman Khurshid by BJP worker Anoop Mishra at Kotwali Police Station in Farrukhabad for calling himself ‘baap’ (father) of UP CM Yogi Adityanath at an event during campaigning in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

In a written complaint to police, the BJP worker had mentioned that in order to get political advantage, the Congress leader had used derogatory words against the UP chief minister who was also a prominent seer.

By calling himself ‘baap’ (father) of Yogi Adityanath, the former union minister had also tried to hurt the sentiments of Hindus, the complaint alleged.

Speaking to the media, the Superintendent of Police (SP), Farrukhabad, Anil Mishra said, “During the Lok Sabha election campaign, Khurshid was booked for making a derogatory statement against the UP CM. After completing investigation in the case, chargesheet has been submitted at a local court.”

Salman Khurshid who has served as member of parliament (MP) from Farrukhabad constituency twice lost his deposit and only managed to get 55,258 votes in the Lok Sabha elections.
