Srinagar. Two police constables were arrested on Wednesday in Shopian for supplying arms and ammunition to militants. Senior Superintendent of Police Shopian S A Dinkar said that police had arrested an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of Hizbul Mujahideen, Adil Ahmad Nengroo, resident of Ramnagri Shopian, from whom several live magazines of AK 47 were recovered. During investigation police came to know that Adil together with a friend from Kulgam had bought rounds of ammunition from two policemen.
“During investigation we came to know that these two policemen were Constable Shabir Ahmad Malik, resident of Amshipora Shopian and posted in district Ganderbal, and Constable Nazir Ahmad Najar, resident of Kulgam posted at district police lines Shopian,” the SSP said.
Dinkar said that after the arrest of these two constables, police are expecting more revelations about the supply of arms and ammunition to militants in south Kashmir districts.
He added that Adil Nengroo was an OGW for Ishfaq Thoker, who leads the Paderpora Shopian group of Hizb, and that he had close contacts with Wasim Wagay, a local militant of Hizb.
The SSP told sources that police are investigating since when these policemen were supplying ammunition to the Hizb militants.
When asked if there was any relation between these arrests and that of a bank employee and a driver who were arrested two months ago, he said no.
