PV Sindhu wins bronze medal for India, beats BJ He of China

PV Sindhu of India on Sunday defeated China’s BJ He in straight games 21-12, 21- to win the bronze medal for India in the women’s singles event. She’s become the first Indian badminton player to win back-to-back medals in her sport in two Olympic games.

Sindhu showed remarkable aggression against her Chinese opponent for the bronze medal match. One wondered why she had completely surrendered, particularly in the second game, against Tai Tzu-ying in the semi-final. Sindhu, who took an early lead, went on to win the first game 21-12.

He fought back in the second game but she was simply no match to the Indian shuttler and conceded the second game 15-21.

Sindhu on Saturday had lost to Tai Tzu-ying of Chinese Taipei in the women’s singles semi-final at Tokyo Olympics. Tai had won the semi-final match against Sindhu in straight games 21-18, 21-12.

Sindhu had won a silver medal at Rio Olympics, five years ago.
