The much-awaited reshuffle in the Rajasthan Cabinet will take place likely on August 10, a senior Congress functionary privy to the developments told India Today TV.
“We are working on a complete revamp of the party – from government to the local bodies and organisation. If all goes well as per the plans, Rajasthan Cabinet expansion could take place by August 10,” he said.
On Tuesday evening, former Rajasthan deputy chief minister and Congress leader Sachin Pilot reached Delhi and held a closed door meeting with party’s state in-charge Ajay Maken.
This sudden visit to Delhi comes at a time when political circles in Rajasthan have been abuzz about a cabinet reshuffle in which some of Sachin Pilot’s loyalists are likely to be accommodated.
On Wednesday, Ajay Maken is likely to visit Jaipur for the second time in a week to work out the modalities of truce between Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot factions.
Rajasthan Cabinet reshuffle: Will Sachin Pilot loyalists get key posts?
The Congress high command is hopeful of restoring peace a year after Sachin Pilot and MLAs owing allegiance to him rebelled against Ashok Gehlot.
As per the truce formula, MLAs from Pilot’s faction will be accommodated in Rajasthan Cabinet, his supporters will be given key posts in some local bodies and close associates of the rebel leaders may head some of the revamped district Congress committees as well.
Sources said the reshuffle might see some of the independent and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLAs who merged into Congress be rewarded for saving the government after the Pilot faction rebelled last July. This will ensure their continued support and stability for the Ashok Gehlot government.
However, Sachin Pilot himself may have to wait a little longer to be placated by the party high command.
“Decision over Sachin Pilot rests with the Congress president. She will take a call at an appropriate time,” the source said.
Sachin Pilot is tipped to be promoted to general secretary rank. He is likely to be given the responsibility of Gujarat.
