Mamata urge opposition unity for ‘BJP Quit India’ movement

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP-led Central government for undermining democracy by doing under the line politics. She said, the Trinamool Congress will collectively work with all Opposition parties to defeat BJP in the upcoming 2019 general elections.

Banerjee gave the slogan of ‘BJP quit India in 2019’ for this anti-BJP campaign and alleged the BJP-led central government for taking away the rights of the people in the country.

“Secularism is under threat,” she alleged, while kicking off her ‘BJP quit India’ campaign during the 75th centenary of the ‘Quit India Movement’.

Mamata Banerjee said that BJP is trying to divide the country but we won’t let it happen. “Our slogan is ‘BJP Quit India’ and we will unite all the opposition parties for this fight against arrogant governance and we want this politics of communalism and hatred to come to an end,” she added.  She also said, BJP hatao, desh bachao.

“BJP government can threaten us by using the ED, the Income Tax and the CBI, but we are not afraid of it. The Central government has turned into a government of the agencies, by the agencies, and for the agencies,” she said.

In reference to the recent victory Congress leader Ahmed Patel’s in Rajya Sabha elections from Gujarat, Banerjee said, “Yesterday (Tuesday) everyone saw the battle between democracy and autocracy. I am glad that at the end democracy won. This is the strength of democracy.”

Banerjee said, “she will attend RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav’s 27 August rally in Patna.”

The TMC chief also accused the BJP of shedding “crocodile tears” for the adivasis and backward sections of the society while they are not doing anything on the grounds for them.

Mamata Banerjee, “ BJP is double faced , on the one hand they are lynching adivasis and the backward sections of society, while on the other, they are clicking photographs with adivasis and having lunch at their houses.

She slammed BJP for taking the decision of demonetization and stated “Demonetization was forcibly imposed on the entire country which created unemployment in the nation. Now in the name of GST, steps are being taken to send people behind bars. And they are saying it is being done for the sake of the masses”.

Banerjee, who has opposed the rolling out of GST and whose government passed the State Goods and Services Tax Bill, 2017 in the assembly on Tuesday, said “We didn’t want this GST.”

“We were forced to pass this bill because it had stopped the transaction in our state treasury. We had repeatedly said that do not implement GST in a hurry. We should have given more time to the traders. But they (Centre) did not pay attention to our pleas” Mamata added.

She also accused BJP for dividing the people in the name of religion. “The soul of our nation lies in unity in diversity. The BJP should not teach us about religion because they are not real Hindus, they are fake, said Banerjee.
